On our tour, you will see the Municipal House, a beautiful Art Nouveau building and a national cultural landmark, the unique ‘House At the Black Madonna’ a ground-breaking Cubist building built in the early 20th century which houses a cubist cafe, museum and design shop.
In the Old Town Square, there are many more architectural delights like the Astronomical Clock, the elegant Gothic Church of Our Lady in front of Tyn, and the pink Rococo Kinsky Palace.
Nearby is the Estates Theatre, where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart performed the world premiere of his opera ‘Don Giovanni’.
At Wenceslas Square, which is one big showcase of modernist architecture, you will see David Cerny’s ‘Upside Down Horse’ and many more of the artist’s amusing and provocative works like the Franz Kafka rotating head and the Spitfire Butterflies.
The tour continues across the famous 14th-century Charles Bridge and into the Lesser Quarter below Prague Castle which houses numerous Renaissance and Classicist palaces and gardens.
We will also visit less touristy spots that are favourites among the locals. My ambition is to give you an interesting introduction to Prague’s history and its architectural development as well as an insight into other social and cultural factors which influenced the way the city looks today.
